Quantum RF fractional radiofrequency for a scarless lift

The QUANTUM RF method: a scarless facelift powered by radiofrequency

08 June 2026 Dr Vincent Hunsinger, plastic surgeon

Among the most recent innovations in aesthetic medicine, the Quantum RF subcutaneous radiofrequency technology stands out for its versatility and its effectiveness in tightening the skin. Often described as a true radiofrequency lift (or « RF lift »), this mature, minimally invasive technique is especially recommended alongside a liposuction procedure for gradual, natural-looking skin tightening. Discover its benefits and how it is performed at the Rive Droite Paris Étoile aesthetic clinic.

What is the Quantum RF method?

The Quantum RF method is a latest-generation fractional radiofrequency technology that delivers deep skin tightening through precision thermal stimulation. Its goal is to firm and re-tension the skin using calibrated pulses of radiofrequency waves at the level of the dermis and the hypodermis.

As it penetrates the subcutaneous tissues, the heat emitted by the radiofrequency produces a thermal reaction on contact with water-rich tissues (fibroblasts and fat cells). This triggers a regeneration of the existing collagen and elastin fibres that, over time, provides lasting, gradual skin tightening.

The Quantum RF technology is suited both to mature patients who want to redensify their skin and to younger patients (aged 30–40) who want to prevent the first signs of ageing (wrinkles, fine lines, loss of facial contour, and so on).

Subcutaneous radiofrequency is also particularly indicated in combination with a liposuction procedure in order to optimise skin retraction after excess fat has been removed. It allows faster recovery and more precise body contouring thanks to gradual, lasting skin tightening. In this respect it is the ultimate evolution of the HD liposuction technique, generally used to refine the body’s contour.

What are the benefits of fractional radiofrequency?

Using the Quantum RF method offers patients several benefits:

  • a minimally invasive technique: compared with a surgical facelift, the radiofrequency lift allows a virtually scarless procedure with very little pain (minimally invasive technique). Only a few tiny incisions (3 to 4 mm) are needed to introduce the precision cannulas;
  • very fast recovery: practically no social downtime is to be expected after the procedure, and you can return to your activities very quickly (except when it is combined with a liposuction, where recovery will still be a little longer). Only mild swelling and redness may be visible for a few days;
  • a precise, safe procedure: radiofrequency delivers controlled heat diffusion thanks to very precise algorithmic settings. The temperature delivered therefore always stays within an effective, safe range, which avoids the risk of burns and depigmentation;
  • natural, gradual results: because of the new collagen synthesis by the fibroblasts, the skin’s natural regeneration takes some time to become truly visible. This gradual skin tightening ensures a discreet result, far from the « pulled » look sometimes criticised in a facelift;
  • an overall improvement in skin quality which, in addition to being firmer, has a more even texture and a more radiant appearance;
  • great versatility: the Quantum RF method can be used to treat many areas of the body and to address different concerns (skin laxity, cellulite, scars, skin imperfections, and so on). It is also complementary with other aesthetic procedures such as liposuction or microneedling (Morpheus 8) for an even more complete result.

Quantum RF method: goals and treatment areas

The scarless radiofrequency lift can be used to treat many areas of the body and face with various goals:

  • firming the face and neck: it treats facial skin laxity, mainly around the jowls, the double chin, the décolleté and the eyelids. The contours are then redefined, the jawline is reshaped and the facial contour is restored;
  • reshaping the body’s contour by targeting localised fat and skin excess (abdomen, buttocks), particularly after pregnancy or weight loss. It is then regularly combined with a liposuction to maximise the effects;
  • firming certain parts of the body with skin laxity and a crepey and/or sagging appearance (the inner arms with a « bat-wing » look, knees, thighs). This skin tightening can also help reduce cellulite;
  • reducing facial wrinkles and fine lines: it smooths crow’s feet, perioral lines, the lines around the eyes, forehead lines and frown lines;
  • an overall improvement in skin quality and complexion by treating acne scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores and diffuse redness.

For purely superficial skin laxity, with no excess fat to treat, this radiofrequency approach aligns with the logic of non-surgical facelift techniques, which also aim to tighten the skin without a scalpel or scar.

Radiofrequency combined with a liposuction

At the Rive Droite Paris Étoile aesthetic clinic, the Quantum RF treatment is used in particular by Dr Hunsinger alongside a scarless liposuction. This is sometimes referred to as radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL). The radiofrequency then optimises the results of the liposuction and helps smooth the skin at the end of the procedure thanks to a thermal shock that produces immediate skin contraction. Published studies on radiofrequency combined with liposuction report a measurable retraction of the treated skin surface, on the order of 30 to 40% depending on the area — a degree of tightening that liposuction alone cannot achieve.

By removing localised excess fat, liposuction can cause the skin tissue to sag when the skin lacks elasticity. It then fails to retract fully, leaving flabby excess skin tissue and unsightly folds. Subcutaneous radiofrequency helps lastingly improve retraction to avoid the crepey or wrinkled effect that can follow a liposuction. That is the whole point of this approach in limiting loose belly skin and crepey skin after the body has been recontoured.

How a scarless radiofrequency lift session unfolds

The scarless lift begins with an initial consultation with the surgeon to assess the quality of the skin, its degree of laxity and its capacity to retract. The practitioner also gathers the patient’s expectations and any contraindications in order to draw up a tailored treatment plan with the number of sessions to be carried out.

While the Quantum RF technique can be performed on its own, Dr Hunsinger mainly uses it just after a scarless liposuction procedure to better reshape the fat and re-smooth the skin. The session therefore takes place in the operating room under anaesthesia.

During the procedure, after the fatty tissue has been aspirated, the surgeon uses the Quantum RF device to deliver targeted radiofrequency waves through a handpiece fitted with a two-pole tip (bipolar radiofrequency). The radiofrequency device releases gentle heat acting within the layers of the dermis and the hypodermis at different depths. The thermal stimulation triggered by the radiofrequency pulses causes the fibroblasts to contract and produces a new synthesis of collagen (neocollagenesis) and elastin. The skin then begins to retract instantly over the new volume. This retraction continues for weeks after the procedure as the cells renew.

Liposuction for scarless radiofrequency contouring: results and recovery

During the procedure, the patient may feel mild tingling and a sensation of heat, while remaining entirely tolerable. Redness may also appear after the operation. It fades on its own within a few days. The heat from the radiofrequency also helps ease recovery by contributing to better coagulation of the blood vessels. The swelling and bruising traditionally seen after a liposuction are therefore less marked, speeding up recovery and limiting social downtime.

The Quantum RF technique combined with liposuction simultaneously removes localised fat (lysis of the adipocytes) and gradually re-tensions the skin. The patient then regains a more harmonious body contour as well as noticeably improved skin quality.

The retraction process can take several months, the time for the new collagen synthesis to take effect and for the skin to regain a certain density. You should allow at least 6 months for a truly final result and a fully even recontouring of the body and skin. Additional subcutaneous radiofrequency sessions may be needed to further optimise the liposuction result. Sun avoidance is also necessary until healing is fully complete.

Frequently asked questions

Is the radiofrequency lift effective against skin laxity?+

Subcutaneous radiofrequency is effective on mild to moderate skin laxity. By heating the dermis and the hypodermis, it boosts the synthesis of collagen and elastin, which firms the skin gradually and naturally. However, it does not correct significant laxity or a real excess of skin, which then calls for a surgical facelift.

What are the contraindications to radiofrequency?+

Radiofrequency is generally not advised in cases of a pacemaker or a metal implant in the treated area, pregnancy, melanoma or a tendency to keloid scars. An active skin lesion or infection in the area also means the session must be postponed. During the preliminary consultation, Dr Hunsinger systematically checks for the absence of any contraindication before drawing up the treatment plan.

How many radiofrequency sessions are needed?+

When Quantum RF radiofrequency is combined with a liposuction, it is carried out in a single session, during the same operation. Performed on its own, to treat skin laxity, it may on the other hand require several sessions spaced a few weeks apart to achieve optimal tightening, with the exact number depending on the area and the quality of the skin.

What are the limitations of the Quantum RF method?+

Subcutaneous radiofrequency is indicated for mild to moderate skin laxity. It cannot treat significant laxity, which then requires resorting to a surgical facelift or body-contouring surgery to remove the excess skin.

Who is the Quantum RF technology for?+

Subcutaneous radiofrequency is intended for people who want to treat moderate skin laxity, prevent the signs of ageing or improve the texture of their skin. It is also particularly recommended to optimise the results of a liposuction by promoting skin retraction.

When are the results of fractional radiofrequency visible?+

Quantum radiofrequency produces its effects fairly quickly, with the start of skin retraction noticeable around 2 weeks after the procedure. The tightening then continues gradually over the following months, until a final result is generally reached between 6 and 12 months.

How long do the effects of subcutaneous radiofrequency last?+

Even though the natural skin-ageing process continues, the Quantum method provides lasting re-tensioning thanks to the new collagen synthesis. The tightening remains noticeable for several years (on the order of 3 to 5 years depending on skin profiles and lifestyle).

Should you choose radiofrequency or Morpheus 8?+

Both rely on fractional radiofrequency. Morpheus 8 combines radiofrequency with microneedling to act mainly on the surface quality of the skin (texture, pores, scars), whereas Quantum RF subcutaneous radiofrequency, introduced beneath the skin, acts more deeply on retraction and remodelling, particularly as a complement to a liposuction. The choice is made during the consultation, depending on the goal and the area to be treated.
