Facial surgery

Facial plastic surgery corrects imperfections (nose, protruding ears, receding chin) and counters the effects of time (wrinkles, skin laxity, eye bags, under-eye hollows) for a natural rejuvenation. At the Rive Droite Paris Étoile practice, in Paris 17th, Dr Vincent Hunsinger combines facelift, lipofilling, rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery in a measured approach, without excess.

Facial reconstructive surgery

01Facial plastic surgery procedures in Paris

Facial plastic surgery addresses two main needs: correcting an imperfection that has always been there (a prominent nose, protruding ears, a receding chin) and softening the effects of ageing (skin laxity, wrinkles, loss of volume). Depending on the area and the goal, several procedures, alone or combined, can deliver a harmonious, natural result.

Rejuvenating: facelift and volume restoration

The facelift re-drapes the slackened skin and tissues of the face and neck to correct sagging of the jawline and jowls. It is often combined with facial fat transfer, which uses the patient’s own fat to restore lost volume (cheekbones, tear trough, temples) — the most natural combination for rejuvenation.

The nose and the profile

Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose (hump, tip, deviation) and can correct breathing difficulty. To balance the profile, genioplasty advances or reshapes a receding chin, in harmony with the rest of the face.

The eyes and the ears

Blepharoplasty treats heavy eyelids, eye bags and excess skin that make the eyes look tired. Otoplasty corrects protruding ears, in adults and children alike.

Reconstructing the face

Facial reconstructive surgery restores the skin and contours after a lesion, a skin tumour or a trauma, aiming at both function and appearance.

02Who is facial surgery for?

It is for people in good health who are bothered by a facial feature or by the signs of age, with a realistic, well-considered request. Some procedures can be considered early (otoplasty from childhood, rhinoplasty once growth is complete), while others address ageing (facelift, blepharoplasty). Stopping smoking is required before and after the procedure to support healing.

03How the procedure works

A preliminary consultation with Dr Vincent Hunsinger, in Paris 17th, makes it possible to analyse the face, explain the technique and provide a quote, followed by the legal fifteen-day cooling-off period. Depending on the procedure, anaesthesia is local, deep local or general, and the procedure is most often performed on an outpatient basis. A pre-operative assessment and an anaesthesia consultation precede the operation.

04Recovery, scars and convalescence

Transient swelling and bruising are normal in the first few days. The scars are placed in the natural folds and hidden areas (in front of and behind the ear for the facelift, inside the nostril for rhinoplasty, in the eyelid crease), and fade over the months. The return to social life ranges from a few days to two weeks depending on the procedure. For rhinoplasty, the final result is assessed at one year, the time needed for the swelling to subside completely.

05Facial plastic surgery or aesthetic medicine?

Not every request calls for the scalpel. When it is a matter of smoothing wrinkles or restoring volume without significant skin laxity, aesthetic medicine (injections, skin-tightening technologies) is often enough and can postpone surgery. Conversely, established skin laxity is corrected lastingly by a facelift. The surgeon’s role is to propose the right approach — a facelift does not stop ageing but turns back the clock, and its rejuvenating effect lasts on average around ten years.

06Prices and insurance coverage in Paris

The cost depends on the procedure and its complexity; it is set out in a personalised quote provided at the consultation, fees included. Most procedures are aesthetic and remain the patient’s responsibility. Some situations may, however, qualify for partial insurance coverage from the French health service under certain conditions: a rhinoplasty correcting a breathing difficulty (deviated septum), or otoplasty in a child, for example. These points are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

07Your questions

What is the difference between a facelift and facial aesthetic medicine?+

Aesthetic medicine (Botox, hyaluronic acid, skin-tightening technologies) smooths wrinkles and restores volume without surgery, with a temporary result. The facelift lastingly re-drapes slackened tissues. The two complement each other: aesthetic medicine can postpone a facelift, and the facelift treats what it can no longer correct.

At what age should you consider a facelift?+

There is no ideal age: it is the degree of skin laxity, not age, that guides the decision. Many patients come in between 45 and 60, but the indication is assessed on a case-by-case basis during the consultation.

Are facial surgery scars visible?+

They are hidden in the natural folds and concealed areas (around the ear, inside the nostril, in the eyelid crease) and become very discreet within a few months. A natural result depends precisely on invisible scars.

Is rhinoplasty covered by insurance?+

A purely aesthetic rhinoplasty is not reimbursed. However, when it corrects a breathing difficulty (deviated nasal septum), part of the procedure may qualify for insurance coverage under medical conditions.

How do you achieve a natural result, without a "done" look?+

A natural result relies on a measured approach: restoring rather than transforming, respecting the proportions of the face and avoiding excess. This is the line followed at the practice — a rested, harmonious face, not an « operated » one.

When is the result final?+

The face deswells within one to three weeks. For most procedures, the result stabilises within a few months; for rhinoplasty, the swelling at the tip subsides slowly and the final result is assessed at one year.

What is the price of facial plastic surgery in Paris?+

It depends on the procedure (facelift, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, otoplasty, etc.) and its complexity. A detailed quote, fees included, is provided at the consultation at the Rive Droite Paris Étoile practice.
