01What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in all the body’s supporting tissues. In the skin, specialised cells called fibroblasts produce around 5 g of it per day: it is what gives the dermis its plumpness and thickness. It also plays a hydrating role: it holds up to a thousand times its own weight in water, like a molecular sponge.
With age, its production declines: the skin dehydrates, loses density and volumes hollow out — these are the static wrinkles (present at rest) and the sagging of the jawline, the temples or the under-eye area. In aesthetic medicine, we re-inject a hyaluronic acid produced through biotechnology (non-allergenic, often of vegan origin), in the form of a cross-linked gel that blends into the dermis. Its great advantage: it is fully reversible — an injection of hyaluronidase can dissolve it if needed, a guarantee of safety.

02The three effects of hyaluronic acid
Depending on the depth of injection and the type of gel, hyaluronic acid works in three ways — often combined within a single protocol:
- Trophic effect (hydrate and nourish): injected very superficially, it plumps and brightens the skin without changing its volume. This is the principle behind skinboosters and mesotherapy, ideal for a fresh complexion and good skin quality.
- Filling effect (smoothing wrinkles): it fills static wrinkles and folds — nasolabial folds, marionette lines, hollow under-eye circles — and redefines the contour of the lips.
- Volumising effect (restoring volume): with denser gels, it recreates volume — cheeks, chin, jawline, but also correction of the nasal tip (non-surgical rhinoplasty) or body reshaping with dedicated gels such as HYAcorp.
03The areas of the face treated
Each area calls for a specific gel and technique:
- Wrinkles and folds: filling of the nasolabial folds and the marionette lines at the corners of the mouth.
- Under-eye hollows and tear trough: correction of the hollow under the eye that creates a tired look. A delicate area, treated with great finesse using a blunt-tip cannula. (Hyaluronic acid mainly corrects hollow under-eye circles; for coloured (pigmented) circles, a chemical peel is often more suitable.)
- Lips: to plump them, redefine the contour and the Cupid’s bow, restore symmetry and hydration — from a discreet border to a « Russian Lips » effect, always measured.
- Cheeks and hollow cheeks: to restore the « triangle of youth » by giving support back to sagging cheekbones.
- Chin and jawline: to project a receding chin and redefine the jawline (jawline contouring); a global approach using the key points of the face (a method such as MD Codes) harmonises the whole. When sagging is pronounced, a non-surgical facelift complements the procedure.
- Hands and décolletage: to rejuvenate the back of the hands, soften tendons and veins, and smooth the décolletage.

04Choosing the right hyaluronic acid
We speak of « hyaluronic acid » in the singular, but there are many formulations, which differ in their molecular weight and their degree of cross-linking (the bonding between the chains of the gel):
- a lightly cross-linked, fluid gel diffuses and hydrates (skinbooster, under-eye circles, lips) — faster reabsorption;
- a highly cross-linked, cohesive gel holds volume and resists gravity (cheeks, chin, jawline) — slower reabsorption.
The whole art of a successful injection lies in choosing the right formulation for the right area and the right effect: this is what guarantees a natural result, neither frozen nor « puffy ». The choice of product is decided during the consultation, according to your anatomy and your expectations.
05Hyaluronic acid or Botox?
The two are complementary and often combined in a single session. Hyaluronic acid fills (volumes, folds, lips, under-eye circles), mainly in the middle and lower thirds of the face; Botox relaxes the muscles responsible for the expression lines of the upper third (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet). For overall, harmonious rejuvenation, filling and botulinum toxin are frequently combined.
06Results, duration and safety
The result is visible immediately, then stabilises around the 15th day. Its duration ranges from 6 to 24 months depending on the area and the formulation: shorter on a very mobile area such as the lips (≈ 6 to 12 months), longer on the cheeks or chin (up to 18-24 months), before natural reabsorption.
A product of natural origin, hyaluronic acid offers very good tolerance. Recovery is mild: swelling or small bruises may last a few days, sometimes a temporary firmness for about a fortnight, with no seriousness. Injections are not advised during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in the event of an active skin infection or lesion (a herpes outbreak, for example), uncontrolled autoimmune disease, or a known allergy to lidocaine. Its absorbable and reversible nature (hyaluronidase) makes it one of the safest treatments in aesthetic medicine.
07Key strengths in brief
- a product of natural origin, with excellent tolerance;
- local anaesthetic included in the syringe: a virtually painless procedure;
- immediate effect, stabilised within about a fortnight, with no social downtime;
- reversible (hyaluronidase) and absorbable within 12 to 24 months.

09How the procedure works
Before the procedure
It all begins with a consultation with Dr Hunsinger: analysis of the face in front of the mirror, listening to your expectations, checking the indications and contraindications, then issuing a quote (and, if useful, taking reference photographs). The practitioner defines with you the injection plan, the areas and the type of gel suited to you. A few guidelines prepare for the session:
- stopping anticoagulants and anti-inflammatories (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) about a week before and a few days after, to limit bruising;
- avoiding alcohol and sun exposure in the hours beforehand, and coming with no make-up to maintain asepsis;
- in case of sensitivity, a numbing cream (such as EMLA) can be applied about an hour before;
- no need to fast: there is neither hospitalisation nor general anaesthesia.
During the procedure
The session takes place in the practice and lasts 10 to 30 minutes depending on the volumes to be treated. The practitioner injects the hyaluronic acid (which already contains numbing lidocaine) into the dermis, using a fine needle or a blunt-tip cannula — the latter, atraumatic, is preferred on delicate areas such as the under-eye circles, to limit bruising and achieve a smooth, even layering.
The choice of gel is adapted to each area in real time. A gentle massage at the end of the session evens out the product. The result is visible immediately, and normal activities, including work, can be resumed straight away.
After the procedure
Recovery is gentle: slight swelling or small bruises at the injection points may appear and are easily concealed; you can wear make-up again after 24 hours. Temporary firmness or a drop in sensitivity may be felt for about a fortnight, with nothing to worry about.
For 48 hours, it is best not to massage the treated areas and to avoid intense exercise; for about 2 weeks, avoid sun, sauna and steam room so as not to congest the skin. The result stabilises around 10 to 15 days; a touch-up can be carried out between 2 and 4 weeks to perfect the result.

11Your questions
What is the price of hyaluronic acid injections in Paris?+
The price depends on the area and the number of syringes: expect from €400 to €1,200 at Rive Droite Paris Étoile (face, hands, décolletage). The number of syringes is determined during the consultation; the details are set out in the price guide.
How long does the result last?+
From 6 to 24 months depending on the area and the formulation of the gel: shorter on the lips (a mobile area, ≈ 6 to 12 months), longer on the cheeks or chin (18-24 months). The product is then naturally reabsorbed.
Can hyaluronic acid correct under-eye hollows (tear trough)?+
Yes, for hollow under-eye circles: injected with finesse using a cannula beneath the eye, it fills the tear trough for a rested look. For coloured (pigmented) circles, a chemical peel or targeted treatments are often more suitable; the two can be combined.
Is the injection painful?+
Very little: hyaluronic acid contains lidocaine and blunt-tip cannulas make the procedure virtually painless. A numbing cream can be applied an hour before on sensitive areas such as the lips.
What is the difference between hyaluronic acid and Botox?+
Hyaluronic acid fills (volumes, folds, lips, under-eye circles); Botox relaxes the muscles of the expression lines in the upper face. They are complementary and often combined.
Are hyaluronic acid injections reversible?+
Yes — this is a major safety advantage. In the event of an unwanted result, an injection of hyaluronidase dissolves the hyaluronic acid and makes it possible to reverse the procedure.
Can the lips be plumped in a natural way?+
Yes: by dosing finely, respecting the proportions and choosing a suitable gel, volume and a beautiful contour can be restored without excess. The result remains adjustable and reversible.
Can hyaluronic acid reshape the chin and jaw?+
Yes: it projects a receding chin and redefines the jawline (« jawline contouring »), for a more harmonious profile — in women as in men.
Is hyaluronic acid suitable for men?+
Absolutely: it is widely used to restore volume to the male face, define the jaw and cheeks or soften deep wrinkles, with a natural, masculine result.
Can hyaluronic acid be combined with Botox or thread lifts?+
Yes, these combinations are common for complete, natural rejuvenation: filling with hyaluronic acid, muscle relaxation with Botox, or support with thread lifts. The protocol and the order of the procedures are defined during the consultation.
What aftercare follows a hyaluronic acid injection?+
A gentle moisturising cream, free of fragrance and alcohol, and high sun protection in case of exposure. Avoid massages, intense exercise, sauna and steam room in the first few days.
Can it be done with an autoimmune disease?+
It is possible, but with precautions: the practitioner assesses your general condition, the type of disease and the current treatment before deciding. An active skin lesion or infection temporarily contraindicates the procedure.
From what age?+
There is no precise age: early for small corrections (lips, under-eye circles, hydration), later to restore lost volume. The right time is decided during the consultation according to your expectations.
Can it be done during pregnancy?+
No: as a precaution, hyaluronic acid injections are not advised during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
