Baby Botox procedure to prevent the appearance of forehead lines

Baby Botox: a new micro-dosed technique

12 June 2026 Dr Vincent Hunsinger, plastic surgeon

« Baby Botox » is a low-dose aesthetic medicine technique that differs from the traditional use of Botox in that it does not freeze the face. Highly popular among younger people, notably through influencers, it involves preventive injections of small amounts of botulinum toxin into the areas where wrinkles tend to appear. This approach, sometimes called « prejuvenation, » is presented as a preventive solution to keep skin looking young and to delay ageing. Here is what you need to know about this new trend that is all the rage with millennials.

What is Baby Botox?

« Baby Botox » is a relatively new technique that uses lower doses of botulinum toxin to preventively treat the facial muscles, in particular those responsible for expression lines such as frown lines, horizontal forehead lines or crow’s feet. Micro-dosed injections are placed at very specific points of the facial anatomy for greater effectiveness and greater discretion. This same low-dose approach is also referred to as micro Botox or mini Botox.

This low-dose approach is mainly used to prevent these wrinkles from appearing. It can also help soften the first signs of ageing and improve the overall appearance of the face by producing a smoothing effect. Baby Botox stands out as a less invasive alternative technique that delivers a natural result and pushes back the inevitable phenomenon of skin ageing and laxity by several years.

How is it different from classic Botox?

The main difference between Baby Botox and traditional Botox lies mainly in the amount of product injected. Baby Botox involves injecting a more diluted dose of botulinum toxin into more areas of the face, which means a greater number of injection points. A classic Botox injection of the face, for its part, aims to partially or completely paralyse certain muscles in order to smooth wrinkles that are already established.

Baby Botox therefore acts in a gentler and more targeted way, targeting the muscles responsible for expression lines but also the micro-muscles of the skin glands that produce sebum. It thus helps improve the appearance and quality of the skin.

While Baby Botox cannot fully replace classic injections, particularly for wrinkles that are already established, it can serve as preparation before traditional injections once wrinkles begin to deepen permanently. For lines that are already marked, it is often combined with a hyaluronic acid injection to fill in deeper wrinkles, as the two techniques are complementary.

Who can have preventive Baby Botox?

Despite its name, Baby Botox is not recommended for people who are too young, in particular before the age of 18. This procedure is generally performed around the age of thirty, when the signs of skin ageing begin to appear. The majority of patients who opt for it are between 25 and 45 years old.

This preventive logic is part of an underlying trend that came from English-speaking countries, « prejuvenation »: stepping in early and gently to maintain the skin rather than correcting it late. The phenomenon is measurable: according to a survey by the American Academy of Dermatology relayed by the specialist press, the share of patients aged 34 or younger among people receiving botulinum toxin injections in the United States rose from 21% in 2015 to 27% in 2022.

This technique may in fact be of interest to anyone who wants to prevent the signs of ageing and protect themselves against the appearance of the first expression lines on their face. It thus makes it possible to effectively delay the facial ageing process without freezing the expression.

When fine lines have already appeared, treatment with micro-doses is an excellent solution for keeping a natural look without the face appearing expressionless, as can sometimes be the case with traditional injections.

Baby Botox is also intended for women of any age who have particularly tonic facial muscles and who therefore have a pronounced tendency to frown or squint too much, notably during their everyday conversations. It then helps lighten the facial expression and give it a calmer, more rested look; this relaxation of the eyes is in line with the goals of an overall eye rejuvenation of the eye area.

Past the age of 45 or 50, however, a more classic injection method is preferred to treat fine lines that are already permanently established.

Micro-dosed botulinum toxin injections to treat frown lines between the eyebrows

Where are the micro-dosed injections performed?

Baby Botox injections can be used to treat the wrinkles that appear between the eyebrows, known as frown lines, which are particularly visible when you frown. A dose of Botox is then injected into the vertical procerus and horizontal corrugator muscles. Additional injections can also be performed into the frontalis muscle to prevent the appearance of horizontal forehead lines. Finally, injections into the orbicularis muscle can delay the formation of crow’s feet, which become apparent when the eyes are squinted and give the face a tense look.

It is therefore above all the areas of the upper third of the face — the forehead, the area between the eyebrows and the eye contour — that benefit from Baby Botox, where the facial muscles are the most expressive.

How does the procedure work in practice?

A Baby Botox session is relatively quick and generally lasts 10 to 15 minutes depending on the number of areas to be treated and the amount of botulinum toxin to be injected. It is performed in the office without the need for any particular anaesthesia.

Before performing the injections, the doctor gathers the patient’s expectations and carries out a preliminary assessment of the face, both at rest and in motion. The doctor then performs an analysis of the expression lines by asking the patient to contract the facial muscles. The aim is to observe the position of the eyebrows, to analyse the height of the forehead as well as the condition of the eyelid. These various combined elements are used to identify exactly the regions where the injection points will be placed.

Once the injection points have been identified, the areas in question are then cleansed and disinfected, then marked with a pen to ensure good symmetry during the administration of the treatment. The injections are then performed using precision syringes that make it possible to dose exactly the amount of botulinum toxin delivered at each point. A precise micro-dosing across multiple injection points is thus preferred over a larger dose intended to freeze an area of the face, as with classic Botox.

The precision of the injections is also reinforced by the extreme fineness of the needles, making the process even less invasive and limiting the formation of bruising and haematomas afterwards. For patients with sensitive skin, it is nonetheless possible to apply a numbing cream to the injection points for greater comfort during the procedure.

What results can you expect from Baby Botox?

Baby Botox helps prevent the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and across the upper third of the face. The effects appear quickly and become noticeable between 4 and 7 days after the session — a timeframe consistent with the clinical data on botulinum toxin, which place the average onset of action at around 3 to 7 days depending on the study. The skin appears smoother, more radiant and rejuvenated, with a face that looks less severe and more relaxed. In some cases, a touch-up may prove necessary about two weeks after the first injections.

Baby Botox is an effective but temporary procedure, whose effects will only be visible for a period of between 4 and 6 months. It is also recommended to have one to two sessions per year to optimise the results. Beyond that, some people may develop a resistance to the treatment if they have injections too often, due to a self-defence mechanism of the body.

Before and after result of Baby Botox injections to delay facial skin ageing

What before-and-after result and what satisfaction?

Unlike classic Botox, Baby Botox does not aim for a dramatic transformation: the difference between before and after deliberately remains subtle and natural. What you mainly see is a rested face, a smoothed forehead and relaxed eyes, with no loss of mobility or « mask » effect. It is precisely this understated character that explains the favourable patient reviews, with people often more comfortable with a light touch-up than with a marked paralysis.

To appreciate the result, it is advisable to compare photographs taken at rest and in motion, before the session and then at about two weeks, when the effect is fully established. Since the first injections are the most visible to the patient’s eye, satisfaction tends to increase with regular, well-dosed maintenance, which keeps a consistent result from one session to the next. In the event of asymmetry or a result felt to be insufficient, a simple touch-up makes it possible to fine-tune the outcome.

The recovery after micro-dosed injections

Baby Botox causes very few side effects and makes it possible to return to daily activities relatively quickly. The small papules present at the injection points immediately after the session disappear on their own 30 to 45 minutes later.

It is nonetheless advisable to avoid physical activity for at least 6 hours after the injection and to postpone intense sport for at least 48 hours. Drinking alcohol should also be avoided for at least 48 hours to minimise the risk of bruising. It is also advisable to avoid the sauna and steam room for a few days, as botulinum toxin may diffuse less well if exposed to prolonged high heat. These precautions are in line with the guidelines to follow after a Botox injection in general.

Since the injections are barely visible after the session, it is generally possible to return to work immediately. Time off work is therefore not usually necessary, apart from patients with sensitive skin that may mark more easily.

What are the contraindications?

The risks associated with this type of injection are minimal. The patient should, however, avoid touching the treated areas during the first few days after the session so as not to cause ptosis, that is, a drooping of the upper eyelid due to the product migrating. Redness, bruising and swelling may persist for a few days at the injection points: these signs of recovery do not, however, require any particular attention and disappear on their own quickly. Mild headaches may, in rare cases, also be felt.

As with any botulinum toxin injection, Baby Botox is contraindicated in cases of pregnancy, breastfeeding, neuromuscular disease or a known allergy to one of the components of the product.

How much does a Baby Botox session cost?

The price of a Baby Botox session varies depending on the amount of product to be injected and the number of areas to be treated. Generally speaking, you should expect between around 300 and 500 euros per session, spaced at least 6 months apart. A personalised quote is drawn up during the consultation, based on the treatment plan defined with the doctor during the assessment of the face.

Frequently asked questions

Baby Botox: what exactly is it?+

Baby Botox is a technique of injecting botulinum toxin at a reduced dose (also known as micro Botox or mini Botox). Instead of strongly relaxing a muscle to erase an established wrinkle, very small amounts of product are placed at multiple targeted points, in order to slow the appearance of expression lines while preserving the natural mobility of the face.

At what age should you start Baby Botox?+

Baby Botox is mainly aimed at people aged 25 to 45, most often from their thirties onwards, when the first expression lines begin to show at rest. It is not indicated before the age of 18. Past the age of 45 or 50, more classic injections are generally preferred to treat wrinkles that are already permanently established.

What is the difference between Baby Botox and classic Botox?+

The difference lies mainly in the dose and the number of injection points. Classic Botox seeks to block a muscle to smooth a wrinkle that is already marked; Baby Botox uses micro-doses spread over more points for a softer, more natural and above all preventive effect, without freezing the expression.

Is Baby Botox painful?+

The injections are performed with very fine needles and cause only mild discomfort, comparable to small pinpricks. For sensitive skin, applying a numbing cream to the injection points further improves comfort during the session.

When do you see the results and how long do they last?+

The first effects generally appear between 4 and 7 days, with a fully established result at around two weeks. The effect is temporary and lasts on average 4 to 6 months; one to two maintenance sessions per year keep a consistent result.

What does the before-and-after result look like?+

The before-and-after result deliberately remains subtle: a smoothed forehead, relaxed eyes and a rested face, with no « mask » effect or loss of mobility. To appreciate it properly, you compare photos taken at rest and in motion, before the session and then about two weeks afterwards.

Is Baby Botox suitable for men?+

Yes. Baby Botox is for both women and men who want to soften emerging expression lines on the forehead, the area between the eyebrows or the eye contour, while keeping an expressive and natural face.

How much does a Baby Botox session cost?+

The price of a Baby Botox session is generally between around 300 and 500 euros, depending on the amount of product and the number of areas treated. Sessions should be spaced at least 6 months apart and a precise quote is provided during the consultation.
